About the artist

My name is Carley Hohmann. I live in Chicago with the two loves of my life (my husband and dog, Lizard Boy). I painted my first pet portrait as a Christmas gift in 2018 and never looked back. Over 100 portraits later, I launched Howdy Carley.

In a world of AI, digital art, and minimalism, Howdy Carley is a celebration of just the opposite: art created one brush stroke at a time by human hands, full of whimsy and care. My paintings aren't perfect — they're not supposed to be. They're meant to be playful, personal, and spark joy. I hope they bring you the same magic I felt while making them.

Howdy Carley is a labor of love celebrating the unconditional love we feel for our pets and the sweet, funny imperfections that make them who they are.

I got it from my grandma!

I spent my childhood surrounded by dozens of breathtaking paintings made by my talented Omi — flowers, landscapes, little German towns — she inspired me to pick up a brush of my own and teach myself how to paint.

Painting your pet's personality

My favorite part of painting pets is capturing the little details that make them special.
